“However, the diagnosis of ADHD remains challenging as the diagnostic criteria continue to have limitations. The diagnosis is dependent on reports of a child’s behaviors by multiple sources, particularly parents and teachers. However, there frequently are discrepancies between reports by parents and by teachers,[27] with no clear method to handle these discrepancies. One source for the discrepancies is the fact that the behaviors are affected by the environment. Thus, the classroom setting may produce different behaviors from those seen at home. Further, the reports are somewhat subjective because there is no specific normative information for each behavior. Observers must use their own judgment. In addition, the criteria are the same regardless of developmental age, but in reality, children’s behavior will vary depending on their developmental level.”
